A: CBS Radio Launches Last.fm Discover
October 5, 2009
Today at noon (ET), the CBS Interactive Music Group officially launched Last.fm Discover, its new streaming and HD radio station dedicated to and influenced by the music discovery siteLast.fm. Announced last month, the station is available on Last.fm, CBS Radio's streaming platform, on various mobile devices and on HD Radio through AC WWFS (Fresh 102.7)/New York at 102.7 HD-2, Adult Hits KCBS (Jack FM)/Los Angeles at 93.1 HD-2, Triple A WXRT/Chicago at 93.1 HD-3 and Modern Rock KITS (Live 105)/San Francisco at 105.3 HD-3.
To celebrate the launch of the station, Muse will be featured throughout the day, discussing their new album The Resistance, their musical influences and their tour. Additionally, Last.fm Discover and Last.fm are giving listeners the chance to win a trip to see Muse perform live at a secret location, and meet the band backstage.
Programming on Last.fm Discover includes a variety of live performances from the New York studio, interviews with artists and special features which will guide listeners through new music, users comments, events, recommendations and news. The station is user driven and chooses its playlist based on Last.fm’s weekly charts (http://www.last.fm/charts), which are determined by the service’s listeners.
Regular programs and features include:
Last.fm Recommends with Bryan VanGelder, which plays popular songs from Last.fm, followed by two songs that Last.fm suggests for listeners and fans of the original song.
Last.fm Discovers with Sat Bisla features the hottest songs and introduces new artists on Last.fm
Live interviews and performances from the site’s most popular artists, recorded in Last.fm’s studios
Shouts, which guides listeners through some of the most interesting comments left by Last.fm users about specific songs, followed by the song that inspired the message
"We are excited to bring listeners an eclectic mix of familiar and unfamiliar music and artists, which are determined by the listening habits of Last.fm’s users," said Seth Neiman, Digital Content Manager of the CBS Interactive Music Group and PD of the station. "Last.fm Discover really offers something unique to the radio space because it is a hybrid—it has the qualities of both a broadcast and interactive streaming station."
